Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Poweshiek County Criminal History, you agree to these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its result. We do not keep a local log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email or submitted message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers receive basic technical information when a page loads:

  • Page-view times and the pages visited
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser name and version
  • IP address assigned to the device
  • Time spent on visited pages
  • A referring website, when one is reported

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files that help measure how visitors move through the site. Analytics services combine that traffic information so we can see useful pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a search request to the selected partner
  • Diagnose errors and other technical problems
  • Maintain site speed and availability
  • Measure which material visitors use
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not compile, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Poweshiek County guidance points to the sheriff, Iowa District Court, Iowa DCI, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry as the actual custodians. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into a third-party dossier or consumer report.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and disclosure practices govern information entered there. We do not control those policies, so review the provider's terms before running a search.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Poweshiek County Sheriff, Iowa court and agency portals, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy controls. Read it before providing personal information.

An advertising provider may use its own cross-site tracking to select ads. That activity occurs on the provider's systems.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information can be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring use and performance
  • Search partners processing a submitted query
  • Advertising networks serving page ads
  • Government or law enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable, standard safeguards protect collected data. No internet service is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect a minor's personal information. If such data is identified, we will remove it promptly after notice.

Your Data Rights

The Iowa Open Records Law, Iowa Code chapter 22, governs records held by Iowa public bodies, while Iowa Code section 692.2A controls dissemination of certain criminal-history data. Neither law turns private visitor data into a public criminal record. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Request deletion of eligible data
  • Ask to correct inaccurate information
  • Request access to information held about you
  • Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that right
