Why We Built This Site
Iowa provides several public access paths, but no single source answers every criminal-history question. The Poweshiek County Sheriff holds sheriff reports, booking and jail information, and operational warrant details. The Clerk of District Court keeps filed charges, docket events, judgments, and certified court copies. Iowa DCI maintains the statewide criminal-history repository. Corrections and registry records use separate state systems. Official county data and incorporated-place estimates also ground the local city order. We organize verified contacts, public portals, costs, and request steps so readers can choose the custodian that holds the record they need.
What You Will Find Here
- Agency contacts: official routes to the sheriff, Poweshiek County court clerk, and Iowa record systems
- Record guides: ways to search and understand criminal court case records
- Official check instructions: the Iowa overview, DCI request forms, and local fingerprint steps
- Record relief basics: where Iowa expungement requests and current court forms begin, plus the confidentiality boundary in chapter 232
- Charge classifications: the felony framework in chapter 902 and misdemeanor framework in chapter 903
For a person's own national record, the FBI Identity History Summary instructions explain the product and the FBI electronic request portal starts the subject-only process.
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, not part of an Iowa court, law enforcement office, or state agency. Those limits mean:
- We do not issue certified court files, rap sheets, or other official records
- We cannot submit a chapter 22 request or expungement filing for a reader
- We do not perform an official criminal-history check
- We cannot apply Iowa law to a person's charge, warrant, or case
- We cannot promise that an agency has not changed a fee, address, or procedure
An official copy must come from its custodian, such as the Poweshiek County Sheriff, the court clerk, or Iowa DCI. We only identify the appropriate route.
Search Partners
Outside providers power some search boxes. They control their own results, service terms, and prices. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may produce a referral fee for us, which supports free access to this reference material. We do not set a partner's charges or decide what its search returns.
